Just posting Nerdfighteria Island, because I forgot to do it. But I also wanted to bring something up.
So, just today, YouTube posted a little note up on their logo bragging that they had hit One BIllion VIdeo Views PER DAY! Obviously, big number. But it's more important than it looks.
My first instinct was to take that number and find out what percent were vlogbrothers video views. Since, y'know, I want to know exactly how important I am.
I discovered that we're responsible for 0.015% of YouTube's 1 Billion Views (I think I did that math right...let's hope...) Which, as far as I'm concerned, is something that I can be very proud of. Despite the fact that it is a tiny fraction :-).
But the next thing I noticed was much more interesting. So there are 1,000,000,000 video views on YouTube every day...I decided to figure out what percentage of those were folks getting, like TONS of traffic. So I assumed that we can take the folks in the top 100 to figure out who the real traffic drivers are. I added it up...and lo and behold...all together...all 100 of the top viewed channels of the day had...wait for it...
I'm going to make you wait some more.
Nine Million Views.
YouTube's Long Tail is SO FREAKING LONG!!!!
The most viewed channel on YouTube ever, over all of the years of it's existance, has just over 5.6 billion views (and that's on 10,000 videos, mind you.) YouTube gets that many views EVERY SIX DAYS!
So don't doubt, my friends, the little guy is the true power on YouTube. We may each only be responsible for a tiny fraction, but all together, that's what makes YouTube the 4th biggest website on the internet, and that is FREAKING AWESOME!
