Just a quick fix up on the maths. There's no need for 36 sandwiches, 15 will do it; 21 if you intended to do mixes of the same ingredients.
while 6 * 6 = 36; if you don't do duplicates (mixing pickles with pickles) it's only 6 * 6 - 6 = 6* 5 = 30. You also only need to mix two ingredients once, not twice (ie. If you do Pickles and peanut butter there's no need for peanut butter and pickles), thus you only need half that. So 15 sandwiches all up should do it.
I'll let other people debate if this means that John's only going to do one half of his two part punishment.
