Now, if you're an Atheist on the web, you've more than likely heard Tim Minchin's song for ITV:
" Woody Allan Jesus. "
Personally, being a former Christian/Mormon, I couldn't find a problem with the song. Sure, he compares Jesus to a zombie, sure he compares the mother Mary to a snail and Lizard and of course we cannot forget the part where he bellows out that:
" I AM JESUS! "
But lets be honest here folks. There's going to be challenges to your faith, not everyone believes as you do, not everyone thinks as you do, but censoring differing ideas and opinions will not prove your position correct. Nor will it give you the position that'll come to be respected. One who's seen to be afraid of other peoples' cultures, beliefs and ideas is a people not fully sure in their own ways.
With all that in mind, Tims song was censored, and removed from the show in which he wrote the song for. There's likely a number of reasons, but personally I believe it was to avoid any back lash from Christians watching the show. But again, why would there be any backlash? Because people are afraid of other beliefs? Because they do not like nor want other opinions? This is clear censorship, to pander too the fearful. They're not scared of the other opinions, they're scared of losing their own. They're scared that their children, family and friends may change.
Show me how this any different to Tehran Censoring the Iranian British Embassies website. They're both unjust, both wrong and both in the need of fixing. But that's another blog post for yet another day.
But as it were:
" Praise be to Magic Woody Allen Zombie Superman Komodo Dragon Telepathic Vampire Quantum Hovercraft *Me* Jesus!! "
Embrace it folk, for you'll come off stronger in your own beliefs, if you can nod at others whilst retaining your own.
