Project Avalon: Bringing "Nerdfighteria" to Life

Every Nerdfighter dreams of a place called "Nerdfighteria" - a fictional world where everything is nerdy, science and puns abound, and geeks can be geeks in their native habitat. This is something that we all wish was real - but some good friends of mine are actually working towards this goal. They aren't necessarily "Nerdfighters," and many of them probably have never heard the term, but they are working on creating an environment that really exists where people who want to learn, simply for the Passion of Learning, can learn. A place where projects and experiments and research and resources come freely and abundantly for those who wish to be involved. And this isn't just a dream or another forum post made by wishful thinkers - this is a goal that is being held by a real-life organization, The Geek Group. This is the Avalon Research Institute.

To get you used to this idea, you first need to know about the Geek Group - found at http://thegeekgroup.org, - an organization of, for all practical purposes the term "Nerdfighters" works well here, people who are passionate about learning and creativity. The Geek Group currently operates out of several avenues in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where their main headquarters serves as a Heavy Industries lab where they can blow things up, experiment with Tesla Coils, and give demonstrations that include everything from small pop can explosions to Real, Working Robots built to lift CARS. Not only do they do science-y things, but they help fund the non-profit organization with a side project, Applied Intellect that fixes computers for cheap. All in all, they are the kind of thing that we Nerdfighters strive for on a daily basis - they decrease world suck in the geekiest, nerdiest way possible.

But the Geek Group has been going strong for fifteen years now and is looking to make their operation BIGGER - in fact, they have been for a long time. Project Avalon has been the outstanding goal of the Geek Group for years - they want to do more than just demonstrations for school groups, they want to open up an entire research facility that lets folks that want to learn, learn. It will be a unique atmosphere with hands-on approaches - one could come for a day to see a demonstration on how to dis-assemble a toaster, or come for a series of workshops on how to build a computer from scratch.

This is why the Geek Group needs YOU. They are currently looking for more members across the globe - it's easy, and FREE!, as well as folks to help fund this project of epic proportions. We have a location. We have a goal. Now we need to put it into action.

This is Nerdfighteria, folks. This is as real as it gets. Thanks for reading this, thanks for helping make our project a reality. Pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested - whether their passion is robotics and science, or whether they're an artist. We all want to decrease World Suck - and this is just one great, awesome way to do it.

This is awesome! I'm very interested. I would so love to have something like this in my area.
