Here's the thing...

I'm good at a whole slew of things. Writing. Dancing. Singing. Reading (yes). Basketball. Videogames (COD). Piano (eh). Photography. Etc.

But I'm not GREAT at anything.

Do you know how infuriating that is?

Yes, yes, I am fortunate to be good at so many things. But who gets credit for being good at something?

Was Albert Einstein just good at being smart? No. GREAT.

Was Michael Jordan exceptional at basketball? No. He was amazing.

Was Jane Austen an okay writer? NO! She's PHENOMENAL (in my humble opinion)

It's just really difficult to live your whole life being good at a lot of things but not being recognized for any of it, because you aren't over the top amazing.

Well, for one thing, Malcolm Gladwell says you have to spend 10 000 hours doing something to really master it.  You look pretty young.  Maybe you haven't put in your 10 000 hours yet, or maybe you haven't found the thing you'll be great at yet.

And even if neither of those arguments hold water, the thing I tell myself is this: even if there is someone better than me at every single thing, someone who exceeds me in every good quality, there is no one with just the same combination of talents and characteristics as me.  So I keep looking for the perfect place to express my particular combination of goods that I'll find greatness: if not the world's recognition, at least the opportunity to excel.  Keep searching!
