Let me let you guys in on a secret... this time last year I could tell you that I read very little at all in the last three years, and this I thought needed changing. So I decided to set myself a task, find a genre, a subject or maybe a series of books, and read the hell out of them. This may sound random to people but I really enjoy reading, always have. I just had very little time to do so. That had to be changed, I had to make time to read. So a friend suggested a series of Science Fiction he is really into I should try myself, and this series was... from Warhammer 40,000k.
Now I thought about this... Warhammer was something I had never showed any interest in, dare I say it, perhaps too nerdy even for me! Eventually I relented, and read one novel which was a part of a series of 12.
Fast forward one year and my standing total is 32 novels... with another 20 to go. I got addicted to reading them... and you know what, it has done me the world of good! I can actually say my concentration and general happiness has increased simply because I can distract myself, immerse myself into a different world...
What I am trying to get at with this seemingly self centred blog is this... recently, especially within the chat I have come across people who are like I used to be, love to read but just have not set aside a bit of time to enjoy a good read. This has to change! So I urge more people to follow Clover's monthly project of reading a different book. This is a really good way of getting into reading (or back into) because it will only prove light reading, and the genres change all the time and you have the added bonus of being able to discuss the book with other readers!
So if you feel this is something you would like to get involved in, go here:
http://nerdfighters.ning.com/forum/categories/books-the-blurbing-book-club/listForCategory
That will take you to the Books section of the Forum where you can get started reading what Clover has been covering, as well as things other people have posted in regard to what they like to read! So get yourselves back into reading or if you haven't yet, this is a perfect time to get started!
Thanks for reading!

Comment by Caio Don on February 17, 2011 at 4:29am You perfectly described my own situation, David. I like a lot to read, but I haven't done much lately, for pure laziness, lack of time, inertia or all 3 together.
You really motivated me to do as you did and start reading something regularly. though, classes are about to start and I'm really screwed at school, to say the least, so I'm afraid I'll have to postpone this plan =/
Maybe I'll find some spare time hidden somewhere in my time table...veeeery well hidden

Comment by Moondance169 on February 16, 2011 at 2:13pm I totally agree, and it is indeed a cool post!
My problem is stopping to read (and getting some work done) rather than starting to read, but I could think of a dozen people who would love to read, if they just started.
Never heard of Warhammer, though. What's it about?
