Shot Guns and Blaster Bolts

So here's the thing. There are nerdfighters out there who were not at all happy with the "shot gun noise" ending to Vlogbrothers, and I've got some things to say about that. So let us begin.

First, and most simply, I made about 20 of the clips to begin with, which was a fairly complicated and time-consuming process, so I wasn't super-excited about having to change noises out, despite the fact that folks have legitimate concerns about whether Shotguns increase worldsuck.

Second, where I come from, guns aren't thought of in the same way as, I think, they're thought of in a lot of other places. Probably 90% of my friends in Montana are hunters, so that's what I think of when I think of guns. And while I don't want to start a discussion of the ethics of hunting right now, I'll just say that it's part of the culture here.

Third, we're changing it. Starting in my video today, we will no longer be using the Shot Gun Noise. Instead, we will be using either the noise of a Star Wars blaster bolt, or a Star Trek photon torpedo. Because, really, that's what it should've been in the first place.

Also, I wanted to give equal props to Star Trek and Star Wars...of course.

Yay! I'm glad you changed it. Where I am in a much more urban environment, guns pretty much mean gangs, drive by shootings and war, and all that stuff makes me sad.

I didn't have a problem with the shotgun noise. It fits the motion better than a laser gun, even though it's less nerdy. My mom, however, was a wee bit concerned when she walked past my room and heard shotguns.

It's too bad you had to change it. The gun shot noises were fine! The changes will be awesome as well, but there was nothing wrong with the previous!
