So Close yet so Quiet.

Approx. 2 .5 weeks ago I went on a vacation to Canada. The plane ride was decent, I sat there and observed whilst listening to my ipod and noticed that very few people sitting next to each other actually talked. I understand that these people are most likely complete strangers so i don't expect  gabbing and laughing but I was just surprised that most people barely even looked at the person they were sitting next to let alone said hello. I was thoroughly disappointed in the people of this World. Then in buses of people, no words were spoken; elevators nothing! So I want to know.. have any of us ever noticed how close we all are to each other, but yet how silent the World actually is?
