So, we've had the P4A just go by about two weeks ago now, but the way I see it, that can't be the only regular charitable event that Nerdfigteria participates in. Although we have our on-going contributions to Kiva.org and may other awesome projects, I feel like its time we combined two things that Nerdfighteria is exceptionally passionate about.
Namely Writing and Charity
So I present to you the DFTBA Short Story Contest!
Or rather, I present the beginings of it. This is, at the moment, only an idea. We haven't got anything else about it off the ground yet. However, we do have some fairly well grounded basic details off the bat (these are taken from the first Tumblr post).
However, there are still lots of details to be sorted out. I will be posting updates on here and on the Tumblr to let people know what is happening
The key thing at the moment we need is judges. Without them, we won't really be able to run the contest properly at all. If anyone knows someone who they would consider an authority on English literature matters, an English teacher, somehow if they are friends with a published author, a magazine editor or contributer or someone who you think in some way is apt, please let us know!
Thank you, and as always
DFTBA!

I would consider myself fairly apt at utilizing the english language, and am a fairly avid reader of books. I would like to put my name in the hat for a possible judge. :) I am an author, though not a published one. My mother is a journalism major in college, so I'm sure if I had any problems with editing she could help. :) DFTBA

What an amazing idea! Leave it to the nerds to discover a way to combine artistic expression and social benefit!
I'm not as qualified as Ms. Collier (really impressive!!!) but I teach English at a college prep, one of the nation's top ten school's in the nation, and I've had a few articles published. I'm ready to support this endeavor in any capacity. My brilliant son turned me on to Hank and John last year and I will be forever grateful!
Stay Calm and DFTBA!
Comment by Marcy Collier on January 4, 2012 at 9:33pm Wow, this is a terrific idea! I'd love to participate as a judge. I have a B.A. in journalism and have had articles published in the children's magazine market. I'm a YA writer and have judged contests and been paid to do critiques for our local SCBWI in Western PA. I've been the editor for The Golden Penn (http://news.wpascbwi.com/category/newsletters/) since 2009 and am a contributor to the Rt. 19 Writer's blog (http://www.rt19writers.blogspot.com/). You can contact me through twitter @marcycollier or through the blog. I'd love to be a part of this! Thanks for your consideration.

Comment by Vertigo_One [Ops Mod] on January 4, 2012 at 2:22am Yep, I did mention that. We're thinking between $4-$8 USD. See the second bullet point.
Comment by Sarah Mills on January 3, 2012 at 8:16pm SO would you have an entry fee or something? Otherwise I don't really see you making enough money from the anthology sales. Just my opinion...
