This is what happens when you love Gatsby too much

What can we do
Tomorrow we'll run faster
Stretch further
What can we do
Against the ceaseless tide

Are we the eyes
Or the glasses
The rain
Or the heat

What can we do
Tomorrow we'll run faster
Stretch further
Against the ceaseless tide

Are you the truth
Or the lie
The new
Or the old

What can you do
Tomorrow you'll run faster
Stretch further
Against the ceaseless tide

Am I the light on the dock
Or just the glimmer in the water
Am I the cause
Or the ashes

What can I do
Tomorrow I'll run faster
Stretch further
Against the ceaseless tide
Hoping to find
What I'm dreaming of
In this receding life

--------------------------------------
Every part of this is based upon The Great Gatsby. The symbols and motifs of the novel are so strong they kind of took over what I was trying to do.*

If it sounds funny, it is because it is more of a ballad than a poem. (But not, because ballads have more rules than sonnets.)

*Disclaimer: While this is a good list of symbols/motifs, it will not help you pass the test. I did take things a little out of context in some parts because of the placement of certain symbols/motifs/events in relation to one another.
