To my five year old self
I just wanted to tell you a couple of things, and warned you about a couple of things.
Your next year will be the best and worst of your life. Six years old
will be your most chaotic, most formative, and most crazy year-to-date.
First of all, you might want to reconsider your assessment (which means
judgment) of the Harry Potter series. They are not stupid, and you will
learn soon enough.
Secondly, that theater class is definitely a good idea, in fact, one of
the best ideas you’ve ever had! Just because you’re sister won’t do it
with you, doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea.
Also, in under a year your parents will get divorced. Don’t worry, it
turned out pretty good. You’re fine, trust me. Your mom remarries, but
she marries a woman, you should probably start getting used to this
idea now. It’s called lesbian, your mother is a lesbian, and by the
time you’re 13, you will identify as queer. Don’t worry, it just means
that you know that you don’t exclusively like boys, but you already
knew that.
You know that girl on that television show, ”liberty’s kids”? And that
other girl on that other show, “Zoom”? They are your first crushes,
it’s all right!
When your father tells you he will tell you about all of his new
girlfriends and you will be the first to know, and he won’t marry
anyone you don’t like, he is lying. Don’t believe him, because you will
get let down.
I know this is probably a lot to handle, but hang in there. From the
bottom of my heart, you are wonderful, and you will make it through
everything.
