Vlog one - Thoughts on vlogging and my first attempt

A fellow nerdfighter convinced me to started to up a vlog.

In which I try to tell you a little about who I am and what I do, and succeed at neither. The next one will have a real subject though, I promise!

The main reason I'm starting this up is to improve my public speaking really, or maybe just my speaking in general. When I'm watching accomplished youtubers I can't help but notice how engaging and succinct everything is. Actually, scratch that, you don't notice, and that's the point.

People like vlogbrothers, presshearttocontinue, phillyd and roosterteeth pack an insane amount of information into 4-6 minutes of footage, without it feeling spartan on specifics, unnaturally fast, or the "flow" of subjects jarring. Done well it looks like natural discourse and seems really simple. It really isn't.

The process of picking out the really important parts and splicing them up in a way where one leads naturally to the other (which for me wasn't even chronologically) is actually fairly difficult I've found. You have to review yourself objectively, review your opinion without your own opinion. It's quite surreal.

It's a skill that for me will become fairly important, I want to get into videogames, having already worked on one during a competition in scotland as an artist. I want to be able to attend interviews, pitch ideas, meet people, give talks, all of that stuff. Doing it with confidence, staying concise, on topic, and above all, interesting and engaging.

Hopefully whatever I decide to rant about every so often will help me learn how to do just that.

After all is said and done though, my first attempt didn't go all that well haha. Still, if anyone decides to watch, enjoy!
