Writing My First Book.

I've been brainstorming ideas for my first book. I am a 17 year old girl so the main character will be a similar age and female as well. I have so many story lines runny through my head I've no idea where to start. If I don't change it her name will be Talbot Louise she will be 18, her mother Jane Ryker and her father Alexander Sloan Everclark will have died prier to us meeting her. Talbot will have been living with her aunt, Philomena Everclark since her father passed when she was 10, her mother died when she was 5. Talbot will be quiet, curious, imaginative, and a dreamer. I believe I will create 2 mentors/ friends. First a young man ~25 Harper Rowan Flannery an extremely eccentric, loud, erratic, and oddly enough, very attractive fellow who basically lives in the library. The library is very important as her mother spent hours discovering amazing things in that same library. The second will be a man by the name of Garrick Emerson Griffith a mysterious man as he is wise, well read, and a little frustrating as he is very slow to the point and leaves her to figure it out on her own. He will be very old, ill, and wheelchair bound he is her mothers great uncle and the only living relative on her mothers side.

I just started writing my first book. I had in mind that it would become a full novel. But I write my first chapter and it only takes up 2 word document pages in size 12 font is it too short, nothing really happens just getting to know the characters, should I not aim so high, and call it a short story instead?
