"I think therefore I am" was the heading of an entire philosophical dissertation upon the fact that the only thing that one can verify the existence of is, in fact, oneself. There had been a school of thought at that time who had postulated that even this was impossible to verify, but the dissertation proved it through dialectics.
As we are not computers (or at least not verifiably so), we can not even begin to prove sentient thought. There is a test, however, where a human examiner questions two people through an e-mail system. When the human examiner is unable to differentiate between a computer test subject and a human test subject, the computer system is deemed "a strong AI."
There are two list of goals for the computer; one that is attainable at this time, and another that is part of what makes us human. The first list has items like reason, knowledge, planning, learning, communicion in natural language, and integration.
The second list has such items as consciousness (to have subjective experience and thought), self-awareness (to be aware of oneself as a separate individual), sentience (the ability to "feel"), sapience (the capacity for wisdom), and innovation.
So really, "I think, therefore I am" doesn't really apply to computers; which "think" does it mean? The "think" that I feel Descartes is referring to is the interior feeling of computation that arises from the human consciousness. Anyway, tell me what you think.
I'm mostly into Rock music. Three Days Grace, Linking Park, but lately I've become very fond of Owl City. He's not rock, but more techno. If I had to pick I'd say Rock and Techno are my favorit genres, odd combo I know, but there's nothing wrong with that. =P I've acually heard of Iron and Wine. I like a lot of their songs, though sadly I don't know the names. I've just heard them when they were played in one of my art studio classes. lol
You're welcome! and yes it has worked so far. I'm sure it would be that awkward. You could just say that you like him for his acting skills. That is pretty awesome we are in three of the same groups, I know I picked you out of the Fake UKers group. Music, I like just about anything other than country and "gangsta" rap. Other wise I like a wide variety.
Same here. It would be awesome to go to one. :] Yeah I like those songs too. The first song I heard from them was Clocks. I don't even know how I discovered that song but I always seemed to know the tune. I eventually found the song on youtube from a Weird Al video. Odd huh? How did you discover Coldplay?
Awesomesauceness?? LOVE IT!!! O my gawsh I love Parachutes!!! I like both of those songs on there too. Oh yah and Shiver :] I think my favorite CD from them is X&Y with White Shadows, Fix You, and Speed of Sound. But I like all of their music sooo much :] Have you ever been to one of their concerts?
