I bet. I'm still jealous, though. I'm the girl who plays with the stray dogs on the street because they look lonely. Heh. Working at a kennel would be amazing.
IT IS. Linking you now, I died of laughter the first time I saw it!
klafjhgalkfgjhalskjfdh Srsly. I get really frustrated about time being wasted. Which is stupid, because I'm possibly the biggest time-waster ever when left to my own devices, but when someone's waiting on me, I make sure to do everything efficiently and have everything ready for them. -_- The most annoying part is that I'm a volunteer. I'm just offering up my time to help. AND WE STILL HAVEN'T DONE THE STUPID THING.
Not going to rant about that anymore, it just puts me in a bad mood. aksjhfglkasjgfh
F'shiz. I am the DEFINITION of epic. Cloning myself would only create a mass epidemic of epic, because the epic isn't divided, it's MULTIPLIED. MUAHAHAHAHA I SHALL RULE THE WORLD!
I did get almost everything I wanted! Instead of Japanese, I'm taking German, but that's probably more useful for me anyway... But yeah, Canada will be exciting and fun. :) I'm getting more excited the closer it gets. (I just hope their Quidditch teams aren't ridiculously competitive, I just play sports for fun...heh)
Thankee thankee thankee! I went ahead and posted it because I felt like I was taking a really long time with such a short story, but let me know what you think! :)
Working in a dog kennel sounds awesome, I love dogs! :) Theatre scars are definitely the best ones. They always have fun stories, too. I have tons on the back of one of my feet, and people always ask me about them at pool parties and whatnot, and I always forget that "oh, I forgot my shoes and then Hannah threw me around a bit" isn't a proper explanation for most people. XD
LINK PLEASE!!!! I love fan trailers, the well-made ones are usually awesome. Are you into Star Trek at all? Because if you are, someone spliced together some original series clips and put them where Spock Prime's mind meld with Kirk is...and it's hilarious and amazing and glorious.
Yeah...rrrrgh. I get to spend the rest of my day today with my fingers crossed, hoping the damn kids show up this time. The frustrating part is that the head of the group didn't mention it to them, and then once he did, a bunch of the kids didn't want to be interviewed. It's not like I'm going to film someone who doesn't want to be on camera, and all of the paperwork and whatnot is supposed to be done beforehand, you know? It's annoying when I'm the most together person in the room. I'm supposed to be the hot mess. That's how it works. -_-
I shall embrace my epicness! I shall embrace it so hard that it cracks into multiple forms of epicness and then because epicness and Rae are synonymous, I shall have epic clones of myself and- ow, I think I broke my brain with that one, I have no idea where I'm going with it.
I register for classes tomorrow, and then on August 15, I'm moving up to Canada. :D I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm also a tad worried about being the new kid. I hate being the new kid. I'm ridiculously awkward, all the time. The only reason I had friends at all in high school was because I already knew everyone from elementary school and my older brother, and at my last university, I was the shybie amongst the extroverts. No clue what it'll be like on a giant campus...
Ummmm, that was the main one for me, I don't recall anything else feeling unresolved. OH, at one point it says that Sally and Johnny were together for just under a year and later on it says they've been together for a year and a half?
I...hm. I haven't had all that many nature-oriented accidents. I've been bitten by a horsefly, which HURT, and...um...yeah, other than that all my accidents have happened backstage or onstage or from doing really stupid things. Like my fear of heights doesn't come from jumping of a twenty foot cliff into a lake (which I've done) but from falling out of a seven foot tower onstage and being pulled back in by my ankles (which I've also done, in a skirt, during a dress rehearsal, still hate that stage). I've skinned hands and knees a ton, but I don't usually get blisters unless I try to wear stupidly fashionable shoes, and when I wear heels, unless they're character shoes for a show, I never escape having at least four giant blisters. Actually, I think almost all of my scars are from theater-related events. Or school dances. I should never be around people, it always ends in PAIN. :)
Haha, yeah, that would be cool... I'd kill for a Marauder prequel, but that's pretty much the most popular opinion among Scarheads so I'm just going to shut up and cry over the death of my sanity now.
Yeah, it is! Or, well, it would be, if the director of the event would just...I dunno...follow through. I've spent two full days sitting in on his meetings with the kids, camera charged, tripod set up, just WAITING. The first day, he hadn't told them that I was going to be filming, they hadn't signed the waivers that would allow me to use any footage that I got, and none of them wanted to be on camera so nothing got done, and the second day, nobody showed up. Rrrrrrrgh.
I'M ALIVE! I had to check myself there, I almost wrote out all the lyrics from Next to Normal, then I remembered that normal people don't quote musical theater when they're typing and therefore can't actually SING. Heh. OH I'm also FINISHED and your book is AWESOME. I'm obsessed with the fight scenes, not going to lie. I kind of wanted to see a little more development between Ryder and Sally before the big L-bomb got dropped? And with the whole end of Johnny thing, too, that felt a little out of the blue, but maybe that's just because of my personal experience with finding out after the fact about cheating, haha. It's seriously a fantastic story, thank you so much for sending it to me! :)
I'm holding you to that. If we ever meet offline, you WILL give me your autograph. I'll bribe you with cookies if I must, but it'll happen.
I know, it's weird...I have, however, been bitten multiple times by spiders, which is supposed to be less likely. I'd almost prefer death by murderbutt. But then I wouldn't really know, because I've never experienced it...rrrgh. But I would actually be the person who trips on a branch and manages to fall off a cliff on the first day. That's just what me fending for myself in the wild looks like. I can barely walk down a flight of stairs without falling, nature is like death to me, which is horrible because I LOVE camping and hiking and climbing trees. Oh the conundrum that is my life...
Yeah...I think that series shouldn't really do that whole "And Then What?" thing. It's almost always more powerful when the reader still has questions and still wonders about a few things. Using HP as an example (AGAIN because I'm a dorkoramus), the Marauders are such compelling characters because we know almost nothing about them, but by the time we get to the epilogue of Deathly Hallows, it feels so anticlimactic to read about Harry and Ginny being married and him naming his kids the most unoriginal names in the entire freakin' world. I mean seriously. He could have at least given them their own first names, instead of only giving them secondhand names. That would chafe.
It's this thing called Dynamic Solutions or something like that? The guy in charge, Keith, kind of mentors high schoolers who get in trouble. They're putting on a graffiti show to encourage creativity while discouraging gang activity and law-breakage stuff. Yeah, I'm really bad at explaining... Anyway, my mom sold him my soul, so I'm filming a few candid shots and a couple of interviews with students who are going through the program and then I'll edit it into a youtube vid for them to use as promotional materials. YEEEE!
Fuck yes I am awesome. I use words as a waterfall, to pummel all that are reading/listening into submission. MUAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Guhhhh BUMBLEFUDGE I'm alive, just slightly zombie-like. -_- I'm still not done with your story (I know I fail at life, it's ok to hate me right now) but OH MY GOD THANK YOU FOR SENDING THIS TO ME TELL ME WHEN IT'S PUBLISHED BECAUSE I WANT A BOUND COPY.
Bees are terrifying buggers. I've never been stung, but if it hurts worse than a horsefly's sting, I never WANT to be stung. I think the rule is don't get between a bee and its nest. Or maybe that's a bear and its cub. Yeah, I'd die on Survivor...
I feel like the end of Eragon was kind of a copout. But at the same time, I really liked it, honestly. I don't think there was any other way to end it, really, without killing a ton more people and mindraping the fandom by either ignoring all the tension between Eragon and Arya or by having it actually come to a resolution when they're very very obviously not really a good fit at that current point in their lives. Also, at least he didn't write an epilogue that makes everyone cry with frustration and angst, a la JKR. Not that I'm still bitter or anything. I just cry myself to sleep every night because WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH HARRY AND GINNY HAVING SUCH LOUSY AND UNORIGINAL TASTE IN NAMES?! There's a HOMAGE, and then there's a BAD FANFICTION. Rrrrrgh. (Not actually angry, just using capitals because...um...I'm tired and my eyes hurt and I spend too much of my life thinking about Harry Potter, yeah I should have stopped while I was ahead there.)
I have to film for a nonprofit for most of tomorrow and will probably therefore not get much reading done, but on Wednesday I have completely cleared my schedule and will absolutely, positively, finish your book and write you with my full and complete opinion. Or more likely my fangirly squeals of OH GOD THE FEELS because that's what usually happens when I finish a book. I hate finishing books. I wish they could all continue into perpetuity. While still reaching closure. Yeah. Ok. I've officially gone off the deep end. Should probably not send this and write again when I'm actually sane and coherent, but what the hell, I'm a badass.
Just an update: I'm working on reading it, been getting caught up in the reunion phase of summer in which the world comes home and wants to hang out NOW, but I hope to finish reading by Tuesday. :D So far, it's really interesting!!!! You go, Glen Coco! (Did I really just quote Mean Girls...? Tumblr has officially hijacked my soul...)
On a scale from one to ten, how dorky would it be if I admitted to doing a happy dance when I read your last comment? YES I want to read your draft!!! I'll PM my email. :)
Sorry it took me so long to respond, people keep dragging me out of my lair and forcing me into the sun. It's like they think I actually have a life or something. Weirdos.
THANK YOU. I totally agree with you on CC. I don't get why everyone is making such a shitstorm about it, fanfiction is meant as something fun to help writers practice their craft and develop their own style. Who frickin' cares if she borrows? Well, ok, it was a little more than borrowing, but the fact remains that something she wrote eleven years ago for fun and to amuse people is now being used as an excuse to dislike her original fiction into which she pours her blood, sweat, and tears. Society makes me sad.
Ranty-rant Nick isn't so bad, it's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks the flaming is riddikulus. (Hee. See what I did there? Boggart BANISHED!) I...have never heard of the Temeraire series before, I don't think, but I will check my local library asap. Thankee kindly! :D (And damnit, read faster, I'm forgetting key plot points to Inheritance! Slowpoke. Life can wait, books must be read!!!)
Good luck moving! Hopefully you have lots of favors you can call in because moving without help sucks like a black hole. :) Things are chill on my end, mainly just trying to get a study visa. It takes four months. THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
Just kind of a random question: have you heard of the whole Cassandra Clare plagiarism thing? What do you think about that? I keep hearing arguments from both sides, and it makes me wonder what people who actually write and would like to be published think...the whole deal is kind of surrounded by too rabid fangirls and haters and internet flaming to get an unbiased opinion. -_-
Also! I need book suggestions, got any? I just finished a decent YA series and started a sci fi one that I know nothing about (The Crossroad Trilogy, it was taunting me from a library shelf...), and I'm looking for the next few weeks' worth of reading supplies for once I finish these three.
Everything's fine for me, school stuff isn't as crazy as usual and I don't have a show running so my life would be incredibly boring at the moment if it wasn't for the day job hunt and a discovery of a corner of the library that I hadn't explored yet. :)
Haha, well that's good. You must be hella excited about graduation! Or terrified, or something. I'd be terrified. Then again, I'm in a major where graduation means that not eating could become a real thing and you're already working on a novel. :P And congrats on finishing your thesis!
Eh, no worries, life happens. And while life is very frustrating and anger-making when it does happen, in the end, it's much better to go out and live life than it is to sit in a dark room and talk about living life. :)
Honestly, I'm pretty used to talking to frazzled people; it comes with the whole college thing, haha. Besides, I'm still kind of sporadic too, I have midterms and whatnot and annoying transfer paperwork to fill out, so seriously, don't sweat it!!! :P Just do well on your thesis. That's the important thing!
That would be a glorious Christmas story, truly. Another cool thing that could have happened: it was swept out of the subway and onto Santa's head as he rode his sleigh around London. Yeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Yeah...I've never tried blood pudding either. :S I'm a little squeamish about what goes into food. I was a vegetarian for about five years, then I finally gave in and just closed off the part of my mind that thought about farm animals while I was eating, but I still can't eat venison or veal or lamb. I just can't do it. And sausages are iffy. I'm weird about meat, heh.
One thing is certain in this life: I will ALWAYS be fangirly and happy to talk about a good book. :D I may forget important plot points if you finish it while I'm in the middle of another soul-consuming novel, but I will definitely squee at the appropriate volume level for sitting in a library.
No worries! I figured life had happened. I mean, I'm pretty unforgettable. (In case the joking tone doesn't carry across the internet, that was a joke. Really. Big joke. JOKING. Or am I? MUAHAHAHA) Also, derpiness is next to awesomeness. Rules to live by.
I know, right? The loony bins would be packed for weeks. And then where would we go? Our living space would be crunched! If only those poor, deprived sanies could comprehend the sheer magnitude of epic awesome...
Wow. That's...wow. Yeah, I can't compete with that story. Now I just want to go to London and hunt for that hat.
Awesome!!! Isn't it glorious up there? I loved it. Arthur's Seat was just amazing. Sadly, I did not get up to Loch Ness while I was there, but I fully intend to go back to the UK within the next year and that's first on my list. Well, second. I want to go to Ireland first. I actually did not eat haggis while in Scotland. Or anywhere, actually. I just...can't. I want to. Well, no, that's a lie. I feel like I SHOULD try haggis at least once. But it sounds so...eurgh. Then again, I guess any food would when you describe all the different parts that go into it.
Ok. I'm holding you to that. I shall take this opportunity to get the fangirly squee-ness out of my system so I will be capable of an intelligent conversation by the time you finish. :)
Actually, that made perfect sense. I think we should both be made honorary members of the e.e. cummings club, where we all speak in nonsense that makes perfect sense once you think about it. :)
Exactly! Part of the reason that I want to slap him is probably because he's so intelligent. If a stupid person makes a misogynistic comment, you can just brush it off because the person's an idiot. But when a smart guy with some really amazing points says something ridiculous about gender roles, it feels like he's lending validation to the idea that women are only capable of enjoying and identifying with stories that are about finding Prince Charming and working around the house. Which makes me sad, and being sad makes me angry, and being angry makes me want to slap someone.
Seriously. If we ever high fived, we could cause an earthquake of Epic Awesome. Which is basically just awesome squared, but more awesome. Sane people are the reason why the world is in shambles. Being nuts is where it's at! :D Besides, there are more entertaining ways to say that you're insane than there are to say you're sane. Which just means that automatically us loonies win at life.
Oh, that didn't seem terribly ramble-y to me. And I absolutely agree. Something about the history and the landscape and the culture is just so inspiring. I swear, I think I sat outside of Oxford University for three hours the first time I was in England. I just sat there, staring and thinking and sorting through all of these different ideas that popped up from just BEING there, being really present and trying to comprehend just how many people had sat there before me. Aaaaaand now I've gone cheesy. Wow. 2 AM is clearly not a flattering time of day for my choice of phrases.
Haha, that sounds like the kind of story that gets funnier with time. :) I actually have a story like that...a friend and I got lost on the subway our first day in London, and were too jetlagged to figure out how to fix it LEGALLY...so he grabbed my hand and jumped the turnstile to get on a line headed back to the original stop. I'm a bit of a goody-two-shoes, so you have to bear in mind that I was shaking and terrified and expecting to be immediately apprehended. Actually, that sounds kind of boring typed up. But editing it out now feels like cheating. So you get to read it anyway. HAH. Take that!
Yeah, I spent kind of a lot of time just wandering the city, actually! I think I spent at least an hour each day on Arthur's Seat- there's a small clearing just off the hiking trail that's the most gorgeous place I've ever seen; I'd actually be quite happy building a small hut there with a giant window and just sitting there for the rest of my life. I'm fairly sure I saw the castle, but I went to a lot of castles in that month so I could be thinking of a different one... What about you, what kinds of things did you do there?
Knowing that the theater was once a barn does seem to be an important factor in that theory... But now that I do know that, the theory seems pretty sound to me! At least as long as he's not actually a former friend of Macbeth as his name would suggest, the world is still fine and not undergoing an apocalypse. :) ...that joke makes almost no sense. Apologies. I took fer freakin' EVER logging back on here, and then I make crap jokes like that. I should be fired.
Wellll...I think Campbell's a genius. But he's also slightly misogynistic in his views on fairy tales as opposed to myths, so I disagree with a lot of what he says. But he's still possesses an amazing mind. But...yeah...wouldn't object to slapping him once or twice... 0:)
Four twins total. I've met most of the complete sets, so I guess I should have said four SETS of twins, but in each set there's always the one twin that I know better, so it makes more sense to just pass the others off as acquaintances.
Doesn't sound weird to me, haha. When I switched schools in fourth grade, I took to carrying around a copy of Shakespeare's complete works. I named it Will and said it was my boyfriend and hung out in the library at lunch with it so that I could tell my parents that I was spending time with friends. :P Actually, I did that up until seventh grade when my actual real life friends started confiscating my books and making me interact with them. But maybe that's just proof that talking to things that don't talk back IS weird. I'm hardly a prime example of sanity, after all.
That sounds amazing!!!! Yeah, the UK is pretty much the best place in the world to study theater, especially either Edinburgh or London. It's just such a rich culture, with so many opportunities--I really really really hope I get in! I spent a month in Edinburgh during the Fringe Festival in 2009, and ever since then I haven't been able to even consider living anywhere else. :)
That actually sounds really cool/creepy. I wonder if Banquo died in the theater. :3
I actually really liked the original trilogy, probably mostly because I grew up watching it. Also probably because I'm a giant sci-fi nerd and Star Wars is kind of the epitome of awesome sci fi action. :) Most of what I didn't like about the original series, though, is because of the script, which was written by George Lucas with some advice from Joseph Campbell (a mythologist). So...rather than thinking that series itself is not the filmic embodiment of AWESOME, I choose to curse the name of George Lucas. Hee.
Oh cool! You are the fourth twin I've ever met. Which is kinda cool. For me. I'm being weird now, aren't I...hm. I'm so sorry about your dog, I actually had two dogs up until my senior year of high school. I still miss her something crazy.
Where were you studying? I'm auditioning for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. :)
The theatre itself isn't haunted, but apparently saying the name of the Scottish play has even worse consequences than usual when it's a college theater. Being skeptical, I have to say that I think it's more because of Murphy's Law and the whole education thing than because of a curse. (Now I'll prolly get smited next time I'm backstage by a falling ladder or something, just because I said that...) Banquo sounds Phantom-esque! Has he ever tried to drop a chandelier? :)
Exactly. They figured out it was a cash cow and are still trying to milk it dry. I'm going to end up folding and seeing the 3D prequels eventually...I'm judging myself for it, but I really liked Quigon and Obi Wan and the glimpse of what Jedi training was supposed to be before the rise of the Empire. The books describe it, but it was always intended for the big screen and they kind of fall flat sometimes, haha.
I do! One of each, actually. My older brother is studying environmental engineering and sound design, and my dog is possibly the smartest person in the household. She's got life figgered out, that one. :) How about you?
Also, I remember seeing on your original post that you traveled to the UK recently! Where did you go? I spent about a month in Edinburgh a few years ago, and am currently trying to work out a transfer to an acting university in London. I'm a little bit of an Anglophile...

Book downloaded, will read it as soon as I'm caffeinated and awake and not being kidnapped and forced to be social. :)
Ooooh. Tea. Strong argument, that. Now I actually want to get off the internet. Damnit. I'll make the rest of this short, then.
Internet + logic = apocalypse. WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE. Ok, I have to go make tea now.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Everything's fine for me, school stuff isn't as crazy as usual and I don't have a show running so my life would be incredibly boring at the moment if it wasn't for the day job hunt and a discovery of a corner of the library that I hadn't explored yet. :)
Speaking of books, how's Inheritance going? :P
Haha, well that's good. You must be hella excited about graduation! Or terrified, or something. I'd be terrified. Then again, I'm in a major where graduation means that not eating could become a real thing and you're already working on a novel. :P And congrats on finishing your thesis!
Oh good! Best of luck on your exams. WOO HOO GRADUATION!!! :D
Don't take any long walks off short cliffs any time soon!
LIFE CHECK. You still alive?
I'm fairly sure you are because of tumblr awesomeness, just wanted to make sure that life didn't eat you. :)
ALSO. I located and completed Inheritance. So now you have to finish reading it because OH MY GOD I HAVE TO SQUEE TO SOMEONE OR MY HEAD MAY EXPLODE.
Typing in all capitals emphasizes my point. But it also makes me seem like a fangirl. Oh, what a slippery slope... ;_;
