COME MEET ME AND OTHER NERDFIGHTERS IN MICHIGAN: I will be at the Spring Lake District Library at 2 PM on Monday July 28th. 123E. Exchange Street in Spring Lake, MI. It will be awesome.

In which John talks a lot about "The Catcher in the Rye," and argues that it's worth reading closely, even if maybe it wouldn't make Salinger happy.

I have read the book. I am very interested to hear what Mr. Green (My new English teacher) has to say about it. I am ready to learn.

Am I the only teenager that likes The Cather and the Rye?
I read it last summer for my own amusement.
Like, five times. O_O

Thank you so much for doing this video. I had started CITR when I heard it was going to be the new Blurbing Book Club book but I got distracted and ended up reading something else. Your enthusiasm has made me want to go back and keep reading! I'm really curious to see my response to this work as an adult, since it's been about 15 years since I last consumed the entire Salinger oeuvre.

I LOVE Catcher in the Rye and I love it so much and I love Holden and I've eaten too much sugar so I'm just going to stop talking right now.
P.S. I nearly died when you did the little impression of Hank.

John...you were "that guy" in college English classes weren't you?

I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, I was most definitely "that guy" in my English classes (especially in my American Literature classes, I wouldn't shut up). I'm just wondering. The enthusiasm that you exude when talking critically about literature just screams "that guy."

And I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on Catcher in the Rye. Should be great, and it should bring back a lot of memories of my years as an English major.

I read it already, just because I wanted to. I didn't like it. I mean, the story was okay, but it was just so ANNOYING! Like how it said stuff like:

"I liked it. I really did."
"She looked quite cute in my hat. She really did."
"I was embarrassed. I really was."

OHEMEFFGEEEEEE.
It annoyed the crap out of me. But I finished it. I think I couldn't fully understand it because it was just so annoying.
But hopefully in your videos, I will learn to appreciate it. Maybe. :]
