Even though I've read the book multiple times, I get mixed up about what's what after watching the movies every time (a good excuse to go back and reread ;) ). Just goes to show what powerful mediums movies and TV are, they get into our brains and influence our perceptions very deeply...and that's how the advertisers get us!

At 3:38pm on July 9th, 2008, Evangeline said…: Yup, we polished off the series in audio format on a recent road trip (11 hrs. of driving!?). Now the little NFs are independently rereading their favourite bits. They really liked them, and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) narrates the audio version, so I think that also helped with their enjoyment (being devout little Star Wars fans and all). They also liked the Spiderwick movie.
How did your son enjoy #1?

Yes, the home work burning is a really fun tradition, and we had our own fireworks too. Nobody lost any fingers or toes, but I did have to close my eyes a couple of times while they were being lit. Nerve wracking in the hands of teenage boys!?! So glad my guys are still little...for a few more years yet at least.

At 8:58am on July 1st, 2008, Mel said…: I'm not having any luck finding caterpillars this month. I keep checking the milkweed plant (the one in my bug nerd picture) for more Monarch caterpillars. I found the giant green caterpillar that turned into the amazing moth on a river birch tree. Mulberry trees, cherry trees, hickory, oak or maple are all food trees for caterpillars. Look for leaves that have been eaten, then look for who is eating them! If you want to find any kind of bug, just look under a rock or an old log!
