Whether you go to the cinema every week or once a year, there's no denying that films make a brilliant escape (unless it's the Woman In Black. Awesome movie, but if it were real, that would be bad). But how much have they changed over the years? A lot. Many things have changed; the quality of special effects, the development of CGI, 3D, and there's a whole new generation of actors. But I've also noticed that films are becoming less and less original.
There are a lot of movies…

I think you`re completely right. I was just having this conversation with my sister the other day becasue I`m at the cinema all the time. I like seeing movies. I`d rather go and see the new film I`ve been waiting for then go to a house party and get wasted but it`s true, I`m not as impressed as I used to be.
I`m in gr 12 this year and so I have to start applying to university, and I`m a perspective film student. I think the exact words I used with my sister was: ``all the new movies are either books or comics and the other stuff is crap. I don`t wanna go into this industry as long as it`s losing its magic`` And now that I think about it, it is. Losing it`s magic. Older films ar amazing becasue they were new and they were everyone`s original ideas and people were playing with new technology and taking risks, thinking outside the box. But there`s nothing new under the sun. Since the Harry Potter movies were such a phenomenon and huge sucess I think the industry believes that they have to keep trying to recreate this, such as they`ve tried to do witht the Twilight franchise and now the Hunger Games. It`s honestly getting ridiculous and quite discouraging.
However, the internet may be the asnwer to these problems. Internet killed TV. Nowadays I watch my shows online or simply vlog channels for entertainment. Most of the stuff on telly is shit anyways, I simply can`t be bothered with flipping channels for hours. I think my basement television set is actually gathering dust. So, maybe the internet is the answer. Miley Cyrus was just in a new film. It wasn`t in theaters and I`ve not seen any promos for it. I found it onliny by chance. It`s an original, and it was pretty good. Better than any non-book adapted films I`ve seen in theaters recently... Maybe online is where everything`s headed. Becasue you don`t need a huge film crew and soundstage to make a great picture, and pretty much everyone I know owns a quality camera these days. I think that if you have enough talent and ability then you don`t need to give into the American Dream of what cinema should be. Becasue we have the opportunities these days to do it on our own, by our own rules and without the censors that banned great works like Clockwork Orange.
I don`t really have a point to make, just to reinforce Chloe`s statements. See, when I apply to this program at uni, I have to write an essay on what film has most profoundly moved me or whatever. And I can`t think of one that wasn`t adapted from a novel. And maybe I`m just being melodramatic now, but that almost scares me. Look what this brilliant industry has turned into, it`s like it`s stopped advancing. Like it`s made all the progress it can and now all it does is move other people`s ideas to the big screen and bring old cartoons back in 3D (which I frackin hate btw). I just think Hollywood is focused more on what the film looks like rather than the quality of the story. And they want to play with ideas people are already comfortable with rather than take a risk with new ones. And that`s upsetting to me, becasue we`re losing that magic.
Right now I`d honestly have to say my favourite film is Back to the Future. it hasnt prfoundly moved me or anything, I jsut think it``s a brilliant film and I love watching it. its still a great story and it`s a sort of classic for me. I hope that never changes.
Thanks Chloe for making this point,
DFTBA everyone
