Well, I studied Japanese in college, so we learned the writing systems and speaking at the same time. While studying grammar and speaking, we first we learned katakana, then hiragana, then kanji. It's a very involved language to learn how to speak. It's not like one of the 'easier' Romantic languages like French or Spanish. So I've been studying or surrounded by Japanese for 4.5 years, and I still don't get it. heh heh. Right now, my listening is superb (if i do say so myself! ^^), but I feel like speaking isn't my strongpoint, even though others tell me different. Since I've been in Japan for a year, I've found myself rebelling against the language, not speaking it as much as I should.. But then again, I will miss speaking it when I go back home to America where no one speaks it! BAH! :)
Anyways, thanks for asking me~! Good luck with Japanese!
