Pig's Milk...a Guest Post from Hank Sock

So the reasons why we don't drink pig milk or eat pig cheese are complicated. Clearly, cows, sheep, goats, all produce excellent milk and cheese. Even camels are milked.

But pigs are one of the exceptions to the farmyard milking rule. Pigs and horses and mice and dogs and cats all are not milked. Why? Well, let's just stick to pigs for now, because if we include all of those animals, I'd have to write a whole book.

So there are several important…

Songs and The Truth

A comment on "This is Not Harry Potter" got me thinking. The commenter wanted to know why I was so judgemental of Twilight, and why I was excluding them with my song lyrics.

I'm not going to talk about Twilight, I'm going to talk about writing songs.

When I write a song, I don't generally write it from my persepective. I write it from a perspective I understand, but often, it's either just a facet of me, or some character that I imagine.

Obviously, "It All Makes… Continue

DANCE COW DANCE!!

I had a dream last night. I was at a high school re-union (though I only remember one random person from high school (who I haven't thought about in years) being there.)

There was some good music playing, but no one was dancing. I was frustrated. For some reason, we had "teams" and people in the teams had to do certain tasks. Also, we were going to be judged, and since I was "best dancer" in high school, they were going to be particularly scrutinizing me.

But I didn't want… Continue

Education vs. Information

Sometimes people will leave comments on my videos saying things like "I learn so much more from you than I do in school."

For any given three minute period, I imagine that that may be correct. But overall, it's either untrue, or yr doin it wrong. Let's be clear here, John and I get to pick and choose the most fascinating things out there: What it means when a guy has a rod shoot through his brain, how giraffe sex is terrifying, the very beginning of subjects (which are all totally… Continue

The Death Index - $500 Reward

Remember that idea I had, back in the day? The Brain Crack? About causes of death?

It's easy to find out what the leading causes of death in America are. Of course, cancer and heart disease are right at the top of the list.

But, assuming that immortality is not the goal (I know, we like to think big here in Nerdfighteria, but let's just assume that it's not for now) I want to know not what kills people, but what decreases life span the most.

So what is the Death… Continue

I normally have a hard time with verbal expression of love, specifially with "I Love you",because word is both a word and an action and way to often people use the former with little regard to the latter. So for me when I use the phrase
"I love you" I feel that I'm cheating the recipient because I'm attempting to squeeze every aspect that makes them a cohesive, engaging, beautiful individual into the space of three words. However, watching this video made me realize that I'm just bad at expressing myself. You (Hank) In three and a half minutes expressed your natural fascination with life and the ecology that surrounds it and capped it off with an "I love you". Those words were powerful because you didn't know how to express your excitement for all the things you appreciated about your surroundings without tying into the things and people you love and why it touched you in that way. That perfect moment removed every cynical thought I ever had the indifference to produce. So I wanted to say thank you for removing a good amount of suck from my personal psyche. I'm so glad to be a Nerdfighter and I'm excited to try to contribute in whatever way I can. DFTBA. (but you've been doing this longer than me so please any instructions are welcome!)

Hank, I have to thank you for the Census Analysis video. It was very touching. Someday, my dream is just to talk to you to see what you would say about me, pretty selfish, but I want to thank you so much for everything you have ever done. I am here because of you and John and if you ever need anything, I am here for you too.
