@ MisterShadow Fair enough. However, didn't you state, there at the end, that the separation is there so that the government cannot say that it is what a certain person's God would want, thereby forcing them to act a certain way? If this is the cas…

This page has turned into one big rant. It's not an argument - there's only one side in case people havn't noticed. Can we either end the discussion, or at least talk about bigamy?

Gay Marriage - Sorry...I Got Angry

I don't get angry easily. I have a very broad view of how people should live their lives and very few hard beliefs of my own. I find it very easy to see both sides of an argument. I like arguing, don't get me wrong, but I can do it from either side of most of the big controversial issues of our day without inconvenience. Arguing, for me, is like playing tennis with a friend. You don't keep score, you don't really care, and you do it until you feel like doing something else.

That is not the case… Continue

Shot Guns and Blaster Bolts

So here's the thing. There are nerdfighters out there who were not at all happy with the "shot gun noise" ending to Vlogbrothers, and I've got some things to say about that. So let us begin.

First, and most simply, I made about 20 of the clips to begin with, which was a fairly complicated and time-consuming process, so I wasn't super-excited about having to change noises out, despite the fact that folks have legitimate concerns about whether Shotguns increase worldsuck.

Second, where I come fr… Continue

Old Video, New Blog Post

Just posting Nerdfighteria Island, because I forgot to do it. But I also wanted to bring something up.

So, just today, YouTube posted a little note up on their logo bragging that they had hit One BIllion VIdeo Views PER DAY! Obviously, big number. But it's more important than it looks.

My first instinct was to take that number and find out what percent were vlogbrothers video views. Since, y'know, I want to know exactly how important I am.

I discovered that we're responsibl… Continue

Nerdfighteria Island!

Yo! I'm in the studio right now recording a song called "Nerdfighteria Island" written by Tom Milsom. So, for the video, I need LOTS of images of "nerdfighteria island." If you send something in, I promise it will get in the video. Hand-drawn or computer-drawn or photoshopped...all fine. Add them as comments here and… Continue

Hey Hank, since you were saying that not enough people were thinking of a punishments for John, I thought I'd send you a link to a thread of punishments for John. I'm really hoping he does my unicorn one.

Hank, I see you have written some books. I have thousands of pages of content. Most recently I have put together roughly 260 pages of a story I am working on finishing. I am curious what channels you went through in order to get your work out there. Let me know if you have any free time :) -Dan ps. I posted a few chapters in my blog.

I will say this, it depends greatly on what denomination of Christianity you are referring to when it comes to what given laws in the Bible are more or less important. According to Catholicism, there are some that are worse or better than others. As a born-again Christian with faith based on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, there's no difference. Sin is sin; keep in mind, these 'laws' in this case, are not laws, nor are they guidlines. They are expressions of love from a higher being than ourselves that sees what kind of destruction we will create should we follow a certain path

You are right, the Bible doesn't create our laws. That is exactly why we have a government that does it for us. I do not disagree with you on that. In fact, I don't even disagree with any of this. What bothers me is the fact that I know that regardless of the amount of explanation and logic I put into this discussion, I will be labeled as a right-winged, intolerant, hating Christian. When the truth of the matter is, I know that my faith and my beliefs, and therefore the word of the Bible only apply to me. I cannot expect the rest of the world to follow my laws and my morals because they are not all Christians.

So, when it comes down to it, I have an opinion. I do hate homosexuals. How could I? I have multiple gay friends and never once have I even flinched around them. The problem then becomes not how tolerant or intolerant of them I am, but the fact that morally, I don't support that lifestyle. And just by saying that sentence, I'm now going to be labeled evil and prejudice and a horrible person. Being tolerant of them does not equal acceptance. And I understand that for other people, even that is up for debate.

I truly appreciate your response, but I think what is the hardest part, is that the majority of Christians are placed in a box, assumed to be a certain kind of person.

In regards to the topic at hand, I actually do not believe that the government can legally stop a group of people from marrying simply because they feel like it. Marriage in itself is a religious institution and therefore, should not be regulated by the state, but rather by the church itself. It does, however, turn into a political problem when a couple goes to a church in a state where same-sex marriage is legal and the church denies them the use of their facility based on their beliefs. If church and state are separate, then it should be the church's choice to deny their request to use the facilities or even be married by the pastors there. Unfortunately, often this is where the state steps into the way of the church.

I would argue that church and state are separated from each other equally, to keep the state from the church and the church from the state. Most times it is perceived that the church should only be kept out of the state.
I agree with you in regards to the ten commadments and I understand that. I am a non-denominational Christian. There is a whole lot of theology that goes into the discussion of what laws (found strictly in the Bible) are meant for, and which of them were actually expressed as being the 'old way' after Jesus came to earth. Obviously, that spans into a whole other theological debate. I don't believe that the discussion at hand and this one are directly connected.
