CrashCourse Commentary

The cutting age of modern education and "the New Media" CrashCourse is more than NerdFighter infotainment. John and Hank want us to seriously ask questions about how what we learn about the history and science effects our actions. So let's do that together, that would be awesome!See More

What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?
A Christ-Following Youth-Loving Social Working Nerdfither
About Me:
On a semi-regular basis I write music and poetry, play tabletop role playing games, consume media (usually complete works of authors or complete TV series or complete discographies at a time), cook, converse with people, work at my job, sleep, eat, and do all those other human maintenance things. Whenever, I can I volunteer with local youth programs.

I am an openly professing Christian, although my beliefs do not fit into any particular denomination (I am Lutheran-Anglican-Pacifistic). I am an optimist when it comes to individuals and small communities and a pessimist when it comes to large organizations and governments. I believe in the value of every human life and believe that far more good can be accomplished through reforming evil people then seeking a blood price.
Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and more
My favorites are pretty fluid.

Some staples are things made by:
Flannery O'Connor, Tim O'Brien, John Green, Andy Kaufmann, Wes Anderson, Tim Burton, mewithoutYou, Gungor, Brand New, W. S. Merwin, T.S. Eliot, William Shakespeare, Gandhi, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and many others.
What's your favorite thing to put on your head?
My elbow-pit.
If you could do your happy dance with anyone who would it be with?
Right now I've got a pretty big celebrity-crush on MJ.
When did you start watching the Vlogbrothers?
January, 2011
Make up your own DFTBA initialism!
Dad, forget the banshee's already.

An open letter to John Green

Dear John,

First, I must open with gratitude. Thank you and all those involved for The Fault in Our Stars. My dad has terminal cancer and even though he is far older than the characters of your novel, I still feel like I have a better grasp on how to love him even when his asshole tumors kick in. Not only did I feel like the topic of the novel was something I was a bit better able to relate to, but I also thought that TFiOS was…

Living in the Past: A Completionist's Dilemma

I am a completionist. When I start a series. I start it at the beginning and proceed through it until I get to the end. This has lead me to a simple, but somewhat startling discovery: I live predominantly in the past.

As marred in existential angst in that statement may sound I actually mean it in a more mundane and... alright let's be honest. I don't live in the past, but everything I love is. Some people like to be on the cutting edge of things. They are always…

My favorite book on logical fallacies is "The Demon-Haunted World" by Carl Sagan. My debating style is built on a critical model rather than an accomodational model. Look up the concept of Language games (Wittgenstein) for some guidance on how to debate. The real key is constant study and building a solid reference library. A good starting point is The Oxford Guide to Philosophy (Honderich). If you know your FACTS you can debate anyone's OPINIONS with little or any difficulty.
