What's your favorite retelling of a fairy tale? I just finished Ash by Malinda Lo, and it was definitely the most creative retelling I've read. I loved it! Also, what're your favorite original fairy…Continue

What Kind of Nerdfighter Are You?
HARRY POTTER and other bookish nerdfighting fighter
About Me:
I'm a college freshman! THE FIRST TASTE OF FREEDOM! I have way too much time on my hands and spend said time being awesome. Specifically, I run a blog called Save the Bookworms (savethebookworms.wordpress.com) and I am the founder and president of my university's new Harry Potter Alliance chapter. I'm an English major and love cats. Who doesn't?!
Favorite Books, Movies, Music, and more
I am completely obsessed with Harry Potter, so much so that it is frightening to others. I don't have a favorite genre; I'll pretty much read anything. I am a huge John Green fan though. HANKLERFISHED COPY OF TFiOS! I love rock, punk, pop punk, some metal, and classical. I love when the band/musician involves an orchestra. I used to play violin...when I was in elementary school. I quit because of a disgruntled music teacher that would also teach at the middle school. I love LotR and a lot of really awesome stuff. Too much to mention!
What's your favorite thing to put on your head?
Cat, bra, witch hat
If you could do your happy dance with anyone who would it be with?
John Green's looks enjoyable. But probably my girlfriend Caitlin.

Help a Nerdfighter stay in college?

Hey, I'm Jen and I'm a college sophomore. Last year, my stepdad was laid-off and the only income was coming from my mom who works as a customer service representative--you know, the person on the other end of the number that's printed on the back of lotions and such?--so it would be safe to assume that we're BROKE. I didn't really mind because I've always grown up like this. Until my mom remarried when I was in second grade, we lived with our grandparents because my mom was too poor to own…

This is a comment reply for something I saw you said on the Writer Nerdfighters page, about names. Sometimes you do need to use the baby wall, I usually do. But I usually search for the definition and meaning first, then mix the two. I have a character named Peyton Gallagher, which means: Love warrior. Sometimes if there is meaning behind the name, thats better than having the prettiest. No matter what you name your characters, you'll eventually grow on it, so don't let "The name isn't an alliteration!" make you think about it again. Though also don't screw up the names early. I'm writing a book, that is about an allusion of living in hell. The characters, are all named after 16th romantisist artists that painted hellish pictures, or the latin forms of the seven deadly sins. Some names are okay, but I have two characers, Steven Melancholy and Thomas Lechery, that are just straight up hints that the story is related to hell. But, I've been using those names for four years. After being so connected, and still knowing I HAVE to change it, I don't want to. No matter what the name, you will like it. And other people will too. Just don't name them, Harry Potter, or something. A name that can only be known through your book, and it doesnt need to be really catchy. Though my character Populus Lennox is a cool name.
