Oh yeah that's good. Last year our prelims performance wasn't our best so we didn't make finals. I can't wait til I get the state DVD and get to watch your show again.
So state finals retreat is pretty much just like retreats at every other contest? Maybe our director made it out to be super awesome to get us to want to go more. He does that sometimes.

We had a really good show. It was the best we have ever done, ever. Oh right you went a couple bands before us. I wish I could have seen your show and some other shows that made finals. Yeah one of our drum majors pretends to stake another drum major at the end. I guess it's to go along with the vampire theme haha. Oh goodness yeah it was fun. I was so nervous once we got on the field! Marching indoors is so weird with all the echoing. But it was awesome!

What happens at the finals drum major retreat? I heard the whole band goes on the field and gets a medal if they are in the top three. It must be so cool to win :)

There must not be inconsistencies in your area because that area produces the state winners. Yeah at the last two areas I went to the bathrooms were filled with angry crying girls because they didn't make state. Your area must be quite different from the Odessa area!

Bummer about the rain :/ We had a rain problem at a competition last year too. I probably can't see Bell's show at state! I'll have to just watch it on the DVD.

I thought that sounded a little crazy that 6th graders would march. I think a lot of kids have this idea that your band rehearses way more than other bands. Yeah I heard something similar about Bell. I heard that they don't march freshman in competitions and that there is a freshman, jv, and varsity marching band and the varsity band competes at competitions.

We might pass each other moving from warm ups to the tunnel or something because we are in the same performance block. Another nerdfighter will be there, I think she goes to Anderson. And good luck to you, too!

On my bus we were talking about Marcus and Bell, and is it true that band kids who are zoned to go to Marcus start practicing marching fundamentals in 6th grade?

Wow you guys don't practice a lot and still do amazing? My section has sectionals twice a week. I don't think we break the 8 hour rule, either. Your band must just have a long tradition of following the rules of rehearsal and doing what you're told. We are working on that still.

I heard you made state! We did too! So this is my 3rd state. We were all really surprised! At our area we got 3rd in prelims and 4th in finals. 5 went to state. Midland tied for 5th and lost in the tie break. Fossil Ridge made 2nd in prelims but didn't make top 5 in finals. Every time we go to area, crazy stuff like that always happens. I didn't see any crying girls in the bathroom this time though.
I heard your competition was rained out and that whoever placed top 4 in prelims went to state. That must have been weird not marching finals for area.

Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror is our show. We went right before you in prelims I think. Or maybe it was right after you.
Yeah Bell and Duncanville dominated state before you guys started winning, right? Were you in the 2008 band?
Yeah we have super motivated people but we have more people who don't care and don't think we are going to state or they don't want to go to state. It hurts my insides when they say terrible things about our band and they pull a bunch of people down with them so our rehearsals are often filled with people not marching good, not being in line, talking, not caring, a good chunk of the kids never bring their dot books. A lot of kids just don't want to be there. It's a bummer. I always assumed bands that win state and who go to nationals are just filled with kids who want to be there and have really good attitudes.
Do you guys have like tons of sectionals? I feel like there is something you guys do that all the other bands don't do and I want to figure it out :P
My director will tell us that the only difference between us and bands like Marcus and Bell is the fact that we just live in different towns. But yeah whatever your band does sure is working!

We are going to area at Odessa on Saturday. Only 3 other bands at Odessa have been to state so we have a really good chance of going.

Wow this is a long comment. I'm just excited to be communicating with another band kid that lives near me! The only other band I ever talk to is my friends from Boswell. (other than my band)
