The Way We Get By tonight PBS POV for Veteran's Day

PBS POV is airing a documentary tonight in honor of Veteran's Day.

The Way We Get By

If you have a tv, the time or the inclination, you should watch it.

The trailer leaves me in pieces:

For several years I coordinated a used book sale with our elementary school. One of the charities we gave extra books to was Operation Paperback, started ten years ago by a military wife whos… Continue

So I went for another walk....

Same wetland trail, different season. I took almost a hundred photos. Went back the next day without my camera and saw a dozen spiderwebs dripping dew and sparkling in the sun - at least I have my memories.....
Oh, one of the yellow flowers grow almost 6 feet tall, it's magical. Enjoy....

Wanderlust Anyone?

I sat in a small stone bar on the fox river in a storm and listened to Jim Green, the most amazing guitarist I've ever sat 10 feet from. His video make me need to get in the car and drive far, and up, until the road ends.

The Sky in Motion!

NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day from 12/31/08 defies description. Go ahead, try.

The Sky in Motion is the home site for the video, check out the night sky in the forest or the borealis in Germany - amazing diversions.

Enjoy...After all, 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy!

Yes! to vid montage. Look at the colors on this one! Thanks for that second Oct Rain one. I watch them both every morning, first thing. Makes me stop and breathe. I'm trying to let the colors, the smells (yes), the feel of the wind on my face, the distant train whistle, thunder and birdsong seep into my subconscious. I want to do some kind of artwork inspired by these. I don't know what yet. Gotta do something. These just have such a profound effect on me.

Yeah! That was the obsessing part! I kept taking screen shots and then going back and taking "better" ones. I think you can only take one at a time in the process. I investigated 'how to' 'cuz of this video. Achingly beautiful.

Here's whacha do:
I have a PC too. Make the video full screen. Hover your finger over the key "Print Screen" up toward the top right of your keyboard and push where you want your shot (anxiety making for me because I am insane).

Then go to the 'Paint' program. 'Start' button, 'all programs', 'Accessories', 'PAINT.' Then go 'Edit', 'Paste' and the shot will fill up your Paint screen. Then just 'Save As' like you'd normally do. I saved 'em as JPEGs just 'cuz. And VOILA!

I snapped "Mel 01" through "Mel 10" before I said STOP, crazy woman!

You can also do it apparently without going to full screen. Just snap the open window by doing the same thing but instead of just pushing 'Print Screen', push ALT Print Screen. I didn't try that. I didn't want anything but the gorgeousness in my photo. Thought it might take the scroll bars and stuff with it. Don't know if that's true. Will test.

I'm sorry it took me so long to answer your comment. We are fine. Getting ready for Halloween and book fairs. My son is finely growing so I had to buy bigger paints and a new coat(1st time in 3 years!) My little girl is hot on his heals, she gets bigger clothes almost every season!!

So inspired by your love of John Irving, I finally dug "A Prayer for Owen Meany" out of the depths of my to read pile...and it is so awesome! Sad and wonderful and very funny so far. So glad I am finally reading it!

Oh noes! A croc stalker! ;D
(yes, I'm a dork.)

That is an awesome pic. I will have to show L after school. I am hanging out with my hot water bottle again, putting off the moment when I absolutely have to get up and do stuff...which is fast approaching or maybe already past. *sigh* How about you?

Mel, I'm sort of around but not really. I get Ning emails but I can't really deal with them right now. I'm on my way back from the memorial service but had to stop in DC to try to do a school project before its deadline tonight. Way overwhelmed at the moment so I'll try and stop by before too long...
