Why is the subject of Self Injury so taboo?

I think you've hit the nail on the head. There are so many attention seekers that need to not have attention brought to them, that those who truly need help aren't getting it.
People can get very desperate for attention. It's still "Hey, look at me" attitude.
If someone has a "hey, look at me" attitude that leads to self harm, then they have a mental illness. Maybe not a straight-from-the-books diagnosable illness, but definitely an illness.
It isn't just an "attitude" it very usually has deep psychological causes.
Here's the problem, It SHOULD be talked about. But it's hard to talk about it in a society that has been overrun with people who use it as a way to get extra attention, when most people who really and truly self injury addiction hide it and avoid br…
It's not talked about because there's only 2 reasons for it.
1) Mental illness (rare)
2) "Hey, look at me" attitude (VERY common)
A lot of people are afraid to talk about it for fear of being labeled "emo" or "attention seekers".
